Mining Museum
With a very rich collection of Colonial Sacred Art, it documents, materially and symbolically, different moments in the formation of the State's culture. Currently, there are more than 2,600 objects, gathered in 36 collections from private collections and other institutions. A curiosity: the constitution of the collection of the Museu Mineiro began at the time of the creation of the Public Archive of Minas Gerais, that is, it predates its inauguration by more than 80 years. There are historical paintings, archaeological finds, furniture, a set of coins and weapons, sacred images and liturgical equipment, dating from the 18th and 19th centuries. In addition, the collection of the Pinacoteca do Estado - with paintings, engravings and sculptures - was also incorporated into the collection of the Museum.
The building is a construction from the end of the 19th century, with eclectic architecture with neoclassical influence and was part of the master plan of the New Capital Construction Commission, headed by Aarão Reis.
